Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Are you a shelter? No, Chrysalis does not provide temporary housing and is not a shelter. However, our Resources & Referrals service can connect callers to shelters and/or other temporary housing options in a specific area. Also, the Pro Bono Safety Project collaborates with area shelters and domestic abuse agencies in order to provide its services to battered women.

Do you serve men? Our mission is to promote healthy lives for women and girls. We primarily serve women; however, we do serve men because they are often a part of a woman's life. Our Mental Health Clinic offers couples and family counseling. Divorce Education serves men and women that are going through divorce; Professional Education topics are open to both male and female professionals and certain volunteer opportunities are available to men. Our Resources & Referrals, LAW Program, Support Groups and Chemical Health Program exclusively serve women.

Are your services free? Some services are free, some operate on a sliding scale, and some have a set fee. Tax Clinic (available February through April), Pro Bono Safety Project, LAW Referral Services, other community referrals and crisis counseling are offered free of charge. For parents who use the Kids' Cocoon while they receive Chrysalis services, there is a recommended donation of $5 per visit per child, but it is not mandatory. Mental Health and Chemical Health strive to make their services accessible to women and families with a variety of payment options including Medical Assistance, private insurance, HMO's, sliding fee, and consolidated fund. LAW Information Sessions and Clinics, Community Education and Support Groups all have set fees of either $10 or $20 per visit (LAW services are free for women who meet low-income guidelines). For more information on costs, visit the specific program page, or call Chrysalis at 871-0118, option 2.

What services do you offer for Lesbian women? Chrysalis offers many services that address the needs and concerns of Lesbian women. Several Support Groups focus on issues specific to Lesbians such as Lesbian Support and Coming out Later in Life. Our Lavender Legal Information Session and Lavender Law Clinic address Lesbian legal issues. The Mental Health Clinic provides therapy around sexuality and Lesbian issues, and employs several Lesbian-identified therapists. Finally, Resources & Referrals can direct callers to other Lesbian specific community services and resources.
