Community EducationCommunity Education offers classes that inform and educate women on topics related to personal health, safety, wellness and finances. Current Classes
Math for LifeParticipants will learn basic math skills to help with everyday math activities, including budgeting, shopping, saving, and financial goal setting. Each participant will receive a calculator for her use within the class as well as to keep and use on a day to day basis. This class is presented by Tara McCarthy of Financial Rehabilitation Incorporated. Wednesday, July 18, 2008, 10 - 11am Understanding Debt and Your Credit ReportEducate yourself on how to obtain your credit report, how to read it, repair it, and how it affects your life. There is always a solution for your debt problems. Learn about the different options you have in moving toward financial freedom. Class includes a copy of Tara McCarthy's Financial Freedom Handbook. Wednesday, June 11, 2008, 6 - 7 pm Resume Writing BasicsLearn how to construct a resume and fill out a job application in a way that looks professional and appealing to employers. Learn how to identify your skills and how best to communicate those skills to potential employers. This class is presented by Marquitta Frost, a dynamic human resources professional. Next class is in June, 2008; exact date has yet to be determined Home Buying for WomenThis seminar will give you the information you need about the home buying process and teach you how be be a successful homeowner. Topics covered include: equity, tax breaks, appreciation, protecting your investment, and taking care of basic maintenance. The seminar will benefit women of all ages, backgrounds, and financial status who are hoping to buy a home now or who are interested in exploring homeownership for the future. Seminar presenters are Faith McGowan and B. Phommasouvanh of Coldwell Banker Burnet Lakes. $20 fee, sliding fee available. Monthly Money ManagementRegain control of your financial life. Learn ways to begin budgeting, tracking, and allocating monthly income and expenses and how to obtain your credit report. Class includes a copy of Tara McCarthy's Financial Freedom Handbook. Friday, May 9, 2008, 10 - 11 am Individual Financial Counseling SessionsMeet with Tara McCarthy of Financial Rehabilitation Incorporated on an individual basis to work on your financial issues, setting reasonable goals and gaining understanding of the necessary steps to achieve those goals. Fridays Parenting for Women: Supporting the Mother-Child BondChrysalis and Domestic Abuse Project (DAP) are joining together to offer a parenting group for women. This group will focus on rebuilding positive parenting following a family or personal trauma such as abuse, chemical dependency, divorce and/or domestic violence. Tuesdays, 6:00-8:00 p.m. There is a $10 fee per session with $10 off for pre-payment of the entire course (no refunds). A sliding fee may be available. Seeking HarmonyThe Seeking Harmony Class is the second part of Restorative Parenting. Clients must have gone through Parenting For Women: Supporting the Mother-Child Bond first. Members will discuss the impact of family of origin issues, fostering restoration in their relationships with their children, self-care, building trust, and having integrity. The group will develop a supportive environment where they can talk openly about their lives. Tuesdays There is a $10 fee per session with $10 off for pre-payment of the entire course (no refunds). A sliding fee may be available. Strengthening Self-EsteemThis class focuses on ways for women to build self-esteem and find inner resources through guided discussions, exercises and peer support. The class will explore such topics as the development of self-esteem, the basics of human worth, and how to recognize and replace self-defeating thoughts. $10 per session, $10 off with pre-payment of entire session (no refunds). Child CareChild Care based on space availability, at the Chrysalis site only. Pre-registration required. $5 per child per visit. No one turned away due to lack of funds.
